Mayor Oakes hereby calls a special meeting of Staunton City Council. The meeting will be held on Friday,
December 18, 2020, at 12:45 p.m., local time, in the Rita S. Wilson Council Chambers located on
the 1st floor at City Hall, 116 West Beverley Street. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct a
closed meeting for the purpose of discussing and interviewing candidates for the position of City
Attorney.
I request that the Clerk of Council provide notice of this memorandum in accordance with Chapter II,
Section 7, of the Staunton City Charter, post and otherwise widely publicize notice of this memorandum.
I also request that the Clerk of Council email a copy of this memorandum to all members of City
Council.
HYBRID IN-PERSON ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS MEETING
This meeting, although to be conducted in-person, will also be conducted by Zoom, with virtual
participation of certain members of City Council, given the catastrophic nature of the declared
emergency and disaster related to the COVID-19 outbreak, which as part of the total circumstances
makes it impracticable or unsafe to assemble in a single location. The meeting will be held consistent
with City Council Ordinances 2020-04 and 2020-24, which can be accessed online at:
www.staunton.va.us/cogord2020-04 and https://www.ci.staunton.va.us/home/showdocument?id=9758
respectively.
Because it is anticipated that the meeting will be limited to a closed meeting, no arrangements will be
made to stream the meeting on the City’s webpage or to broadcast the meeting on the City’s public
access channel.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Since the meeting includes a closed meeting, there will be no opportunity for public comment.
